The Lecture Forgotten

I haven't had this dream for quite a while, but right after graduating college I used to have this dream quite often. Basically it goes like this...

While preparing for finals I am suddenly hit with that stomach dropping feeling of "I've done something horribly, horribly stupid." I quickly sign-in to my account on our school's online enrollment service. My eyes cautiously skim through my class schedule while my fear suddenly turns into panic. I had completely forgotten about a class that I had enrolled in at the start of the semester. For the entire semester I had unknowingly skipped every lecture, every quiz, and every exam. This is where the dreams start to get fuzzy, but generally they end with me running to the class, taking a seat, while pretending that I had been there all along. However, suddenly I notice the other students are glaring at me with their eyes that seemed to be saying "you're not fooling us."

Usually when I awake from this dream I am in a state of panic. Soon I come-to and realize that I'm safe in my bed with my degree safely hanging on the wall above my desk.

Interestingly, one of my co-workers has this same exact dream even though he graduated college about 30 years ago.

Wow, Stephen, I've actually had a really similar dream before, too! My dream's just the part where I'm back in school, it's the end of a semester, and I suddenly realize there's some class that I signed up for but forgot to go to the entire semester. I don't remember how the dream resolves itself, but I'm definitely in a panic. I don't know the last time I had that dream, but it's been over ten years since I was in college, and I'm sure I've had that dream in the last couple of years. I'm guessing it just has something to do with feeling like you forgot about something really important in real life and for some reason it shows up as a class in the dream. It's funny to hear other people have had that dream, too.
